Mahanimba is a dravya in Ayurveda which can be botanically addressed as Melia azedarach Linn, of Maleaceae family. Mahanimba is been used for treating many vyadhis according to ayurveda like arsha, Gridhrasi etc. It is used in many ayurvedic preparations. This study was done to standardize the sample of mahanimba from Mumbai area for a clinical study. The roots of mahanimba were collected, authenticated and Standardised following standard guidelines and the results were matched up with API. The drug was authenticated with the standards of Blatter herbarium. Results of physio chemical analysis revealed that root powder has water soluble extract 8.36%, acid soluble extract 0.52%, total ash content 6.56%, Moisture content 3.2%,tannins, phenols, flavonoids were important phytochemical of root extract. HPTLC was also carried out. This study confirmed that the plant source which was been collected and churna were prepared was of good quality and purity as it matched up with the standards of API and could be effectively used to carry out the clinical study.
