ABSTRACT

According to ‘National Health policy Draft 2015’ Maternal mortality contributes about 4% of all mortalities in the 15-49 age group of women. According to 7 keys policy, the important mainstreaming of AYUSH accelerated with NRHM to help the functioning of ‘National Programmes ’is being emphasised. This policy supports the integration of AYUSH systems at the level of knowledge systems for systemic validation in safety & efficacy concern. Kaumarbhritya  is a branch of Ashtang Ayurveda in which the emphasis has been given on Maternal & Child health exclusively. Detailed antenatal care, perinatal, postnatal care guidelines have been described in Charak, Sushrut, Vagbhat & Kashyap Samhita, They are also accepted & practiced since centuries. ‘Garbh sanskar’ is one of such practices which is getting popularised now-a-days in order to get the ‘Signature baby’. But only Scientifically validated & standardized protocols can be accepted by scientific communities and policy makers nationally & globally. This paper will discuss the scope & challenges in this concern.
